Scam warning: Information theft through fake app installations

22/08/2025

Recently, there have been numerous scam cases involving the installation of fake applications designed to steal personal information and bank account details, leading to the misappropriation of individuals’ assets.

To raise awareness and help proactively prevent risks, Sacombank advises customers to be cautious of the following scam tactics:

I. SCAM SCENARIOS

1. Scammers impersonate government agencies, banks, or telecommunications providers via SMS, calls, or emails, approaching individuals and sending links or QR codes that lead to fraudulent applications masquerading as legitimate brands.

Once installed, these applications request access to the device and can collect information such as OTP codes, as well as take control of the device to access banking applications.

 2. Fake software or applications containing malware are distributed through advertisements or clickbait messages delivered via SMS, email, or social media. These trick users into lowering their guard, resulting in information leaks and loss of account access.

II. SCAM CHANNELS

1. Telecommunications: SMS, hotline, email, etc.

2. Social media: Facebook, Zalo, Viber, etc.

III. PREVENTION METHODS
